Vinted buyer protection fee explained (and why your price filter is wrong)
How the Vinted buyer protection fee is calculated, worked examples, what you really pay with postage, and why Vinted's price filter ignores the fee.
The Vinted buyer protection fee is what the buyer pays on top of the item price for Vinted's refund cover. In most countries it's a fixed €0.70 (£0.70 in the UK) plus 5% of the item price, according to Vinted's help pages at the time of writing. Postage comes on top of that. Vinted's own price filter ignores the fee, so a search for "up to €20" happily shows you items that cost more than €20.
How the fee is calculated
Two parts, added together:
- A fixed part per order, €0.70 in euro countries and £0.70 in the UK.
- A percentage of the item price, 5%.
Vinted sets the fee per country and has changed it before, so treat these numbers as the usual case, not a promise. The figure shown at checkout is what you actually pay, and Vinted's search results in most countries now show a second price with the fee included, next to the asking price.
Worked examples
| Item price | Fixed part | 5% | Buyer protection | Total before postage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| €5.00 | €0.70 | €0.25 | €0.95 | €5.95 |
| €10.00 | €0.70 | €0.50 | €1.20 | €11.20 |
| €15.00 | €0.70 | €0.75 | €1.45 | €16.45 |
| €20.00 | €0.70 | €1.00 | €1.70 | €21.70 |
| €50.00 | €0.70 | €2.50 | €3.20 | €53.20 |
| €100.00 | €0.70 | €5.00 | €5.70 | €105.70 |
On cheap items the fixed part dominates: on a €5 top the fee is 19% of the price. On expensive items it's close to 5%.
To work it out yourself: take the price, multiply by 1.05, add 0.70. A €32 pair of jeans: 32 × 1.05 = 33.60, plus 0.70 = €34.30.
Then postage
Postage is separate and depends on the carrier, the parcel size the seller chose, and whether you pick a parcel locker, a pickup point or home delivery. It's shown at checkout before you pay. For small parcels it's often a few euros, which on a cheap item can be more than the item itself.
So the full sum for one item is:
item price + (0.70 + 5% of item price) + postage
Bundles
If you buy several items from the same seller as a bundle, you pay postage once instead of per item. Many sellers also give a bundle discount. For cheap items, bundling is the easiest way to bring the real cost per item down.
Why your price filter is wrong
When you set a maximum price in Vinted's search, it filters on the seller's asking price. It has no idea about buyer protection or postage. That has two effects:
- Items just under your limit cost more than your limit. With a €20 limit, a €19.50 jacket costs €21.18 before postage.
- If you mentally adjust by searching lower, you miss listings that would have fit.
It sounds small, but for anyone who watches a price closely, such as collectors with a ceiling or resellers working to a margin, it decides whether a listing is actually a deal.
How to filter on the price you'll really pay
Do the maths on each listing, or use the total Vinted shows next to the asking price. That works when browsing but not for saved searches or alerts.
vinted-bot, a free and open-source alert tool, filters on the total. Set a maximum of €35 and it means €35 with buyer protection included. It takes that total straight from Vinted, so it matches what Vinted charges in your country without you entering a formula. Every alert shows the total first, with the asking price and buyer protection broken down underneath, and its "skipped" list tells you when a listing was left out for being over your limit.
It also learns the typical total price for each search and flags listings that are clearly under it, which is a better test of a bargain than a fixed number. If you resell, you can add your resale price, the selling platform's fee and your postage, and alerts show the margin left.
Common questions about Vinted fees
Do sellers pay fees on Vinted?
Private sellers pay no selling fee. The buyer pays buyer protection. Sellers can pay for optional extras like bumps to make listings more visible. Business sellers on Vinted Pro have their own terms.
Is buyer protection refunded if I return an item?
Vinted's help centre covers refunds under buyer protection: if an item doesn't arrive or is significantly not as described and your claim is accepted, you're refunded. Check the current terms for your country for exactly which amounts are refunded.
Is the fee the same in every country?
The structure is the same in most countries, a fixed amount plus a percentage, but Vinted sets it per market and currency. If you buy from another country's site, the checkout shows the fee that applies to you.
What does "incl." mean next to a price on Vinted?
It's the price including buyer protection, before postage. It's the number to compare with your budget.
Should I make an offer to cover the fee?
You can. Sellers often accept a small offer, and on a €20 item knocking off €2 covers the fee. Keep it reasonable: many sellers price with offers in mind, but a lowball on an already cheap item usually gets ignored, and someone else may buy while you negotiate.
Setting a sensible limit for a search
A quick way to pick the number for a search or an alert:
- Decide the most you'd pay at checkout, postage included. Say €30.
- Subtract a typical postage cost for that kind of parcel. Say €4, leaving €26.
- That €26 is your limit including buyer protection. In a tool that filters on the total, enter €26.
- If you're filtering in Vinted's own search instead, the asking price that fits is (26 − 0.70) ÷ 1.05, so about €24.10.
For a quick rule in your head: on items between €10 and €50, the fee adds roughly €1 to €3.
The short version
Budget with the total, not the tag. Price × 1.05 + 0.70, plus postage. If you use alerts, make sure the price limit means the total; otherwise you'll get pinged for things above your budget and miss things inside it. For setting up alerts, start with how to get notified about new Vinted listings.
Questions
How much is the Vinted buyer protection fee?
In most countries it's a fixed €0.70 (£0.70 in the UK) plus 5% of the item price, according to Vinted's help pages at the time of writing. Vinted sets it per country and can change it, so the checkout screen is the final word.
Who pays the Vinted buyer protection fee?
The buyer. Private sellers on Vinted pay no selling fee; the buyer pays the item price, buyer protection and postage.
Does Vinted's price filter include buyer protection?
No. The price filter in Vinted's search works on the seller's asking price. A filter of up to €20 shows items that cost more than €20 once buyer protection is added, before postage.
Can you avoid the Vinted buyer protection fee?
Not on purchases made through Vinted's checkout, and paying outside Vinted to dodge it removes your protection and breaks Vinted's rules. Bundling several items from one seller at least saves on postage.
